Wilmington based artist Meroe Wheatley has been developing her acrylic painting style over the past 18 years. Inspired by the cycle of nature’s seasons, and the pattern of human interaction with nature over time, her subjects range from kitchen fruits and flowers, a farmer’s field on a sunlit day, or the morning light in chapel ruins. Sharing her discovery is at the heart of her compositions, an effort to preserve a moment of joy in the fleeting patterns of light and color. Meroe’s landscapes and still life paintings have received awards in both the annual Spring Azalea Festival art show and in North Carolina Silver Arts competition. Her paintings have found a place in personal collections both here in the United States and internationally.
